Santa Lucia is the traditional Scandinavian festival of Light and Hope. Legend states: a young Italian Lucia gave everything to the poor and admitted being a Christian. She was burned at the stake. Later, Lucia then clothed in white, with a crown of light circling her head appeared at the bow of a ship laden with food for the starving people of Varmland, Sweden. She became the symbol of light and hope to humanity on the darkest day of the year to herald the glad Christmas time.
On Saturday, December 9th at 7:00 a.m., we will celebrate the Festival of Lights both in person and online,
by carrying in the light and sharing sweetness with our neighborhood.
